about

J.C. is Jose Cabrera, a Spanish techno producer who, in 2015, had a fine debut album on Fred P’s Soul People Music. Now he continues to set his own agenda by launching an eponymous new label, Cabrera, which will feature his own music as well as that from the likes of Population One and Tadeo, will come both on vinyl and digitally and features artwork from talented graphic designer Lerias. The Madrid man himself is behind the first two releases, and with the package also including Jonas Kopp remix, the label already promises to be an in the know outlet for considered club sounds.
J.C. operates in a heady and spaced out underground world where dub, techno and deepness all collide in hypnotic and seductive ways. He has been active under many guises for years, but has focussed on work as J.C. since 2013 with EPs on labels like Tresor, Deeply Rooted, Symbolism and Greener. His first EP on Cabrera features four more well crafted techno cuts that showcase his harder side.
The Rebellion of the Overman is a quick and classically informed techno track with bubbly rubber drums and intense synth lines. Everything is high pressure and impactfull and works on making you lose your mind in the groove, which you do, for five mad minutes. Will To Power is more cerebral, with space this circling a hurried deep drum line and eerie synths twinkling like a distant metropolis. Racing through space at a steady pace, this one will take floors late into the night.
Techno veteran and tremor, Tresor and Ilian Tape producer Jonas Kopp remixes The Rebellion of the Overman into a minimalistic monster with lots of streaming synths and slick, frictionless drum lines run through with cutting hi hats and paranoid pads. It’s manic and magic in equal measure before J.C. then closes things out with the blissfully ambient and spacey electronics of Eternal Return.
This is a rich and varied EP that gets the Cabrera label off to a fantastic start.
